Summer Christmas Desserts

Christmas pudding has never been on the radar at Christmas in our family, mainly because my dear husband won’t eat it. Instead Christmas dessert is more likely to be Lemon Meringue Pie, Lemon Delicious Dessert or Pineapple Coconut Pie. All of these recipes are up on the food blog. Pavlova is another favorite Aussie Christmas dessert, though not is much in our house as it is a bit too sweet for my liking. I’m actually just as happy with fresh fruit salad and frozen yoghurt. But this year I might just try something different for Christmas dessert, a recipe a … Continue reading

Berry Yoghurt Dessert

While I thoroughly enjoyed the movie Julie and Julia, two things stood out to me. One, is don’t go and see this movie before a meal or if you’re on a diet, the emphasis on food is sure to make you feel even hungrier. The second thing I thought was what a lot of fuss went into some of the recipes and I couldn’t see myself doing that. I’m very much a no fuss cook, which is why the recipe I’m going to give you today appeals to me. It has few ingredients, is easily made, and tastes beautiful. What … Continue reading

Mick’s Mince Loaf

I love it when Mick decides to take to the kitchen and this is another of his specialties. In fact I have never made this recipe at all. The original recipe used a cob loaf and was not gluten free and we bemoaned the fact for a while that we could no longer have it. Then we thought why can’t we? And why does it have to be a cob loaf anyway? Wouldn’t a gluten free bread loaf work just as well? In fact we decided it might even work better. Mick decided to try it. He made a loaf … Continue reading

Little Touches Make The Difference

When it comes to vegetables, carrots are another huge favorite. When I was pregnant I ate so many carrots I felt like Bugs Bunny. Carrots are good for your eyesight because they contain so much beta carotene which translates into Vitamin A. My children and I should never have anything wrong with our eyesight. It was certainly a better craving than many others I’ve heard of and less fattening than the other craving of custard tarts, which I also had. This was all before my gluten free diagnosis. Perhaps though, you are bored with just steamed carrots. A good suggestion … Continue reading

Oatmeal: A Simple Way To Increase Milk Supply

At a recent meeting with a group of young, breastfeeding mothers, I learned that oatmeal is supposed to boost milk supply. While it is not scientifically proven, many mothers report an increase in milk production after eating oatmeal, or products containing oatmeal. I’ve never had a problem with too little milk; in fact, the only “problem” I’ve had is too much milk. I’ve always counted myself lucky that supply was never an issue, because I have a strong desire to breastfeed well past my daughter’s first birthday. Although I’ve never had a problem with too little milk, I want to … Continue reading

One-Pot Cooking- A New Cook Book

If you’ve been reading my blogs and recipes you know I’m a no fuss cook, so when I saw a book titled One-pot Cooking how could I possibly resist? Along with the book came a copy of the March issue of Super Food Ideas magazine, which has been around for over 10 years and has a wide readership. I admit I didn’t even know it existed. But the Mexican Chicken Bake on the cover is enough to make me think it will be good too. As a bonus to Super Foods Ideas One-pot Cooking which tells me it has ‘ … Continue reading
