I have to begin by saying I for one thing that the birthday cake is highly over rated! For little fingers, I find myself liking cupcakes much better. It's a lot less mess, and I find you can be more creative. Also, when serving cupcakes, it's possible to do a few different flavors. I find that kids who don't share my daughter's infatuation with chocolate always appreciate. Cupcakes are perfect for a tea party too because they're miniature and hand held. Candied Flower Cupcakes For a quick fix when you don't have a lot of time, cupcakes decorated with candied flowers is perfect for a tea party. You might even consider doing a tray of cupcakes for the adults in this style as the results are quite pretty. Simply frost the cupcake and add one candied flower on top! Daisy Cupcakes Personally, I prefer to do this with chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting, but it doesn't really matter. Once the cupcake is frosted, add 5 to 6 giant marshmallows to the top depressing each so that they look like flower petals. In the middle add one pastel colored jelly bean. Hot Fudge Tea Cups A guaranteed sugar rush, serve this 'faux hot chocolate' for a winter tea party. When the cupcakes are finished, scoop out the top and some of themiddle to make the cupcake look like the body of a tea cup. (You'll need to de-paper the cupcakes if you baked them in paper lining.) Next, add the tea cup handle. Handles can be made using marzipan or you could use candy shoe laces. The finishing touch is a brew of 'hot chocolate'. To do this warm some hot fudge sauce in the microwave as per the directions on the jar. Pour the hot fudge into the hole you created at the top and let sit for several hours. The result will look like a tea cup full of hot chocolate! Those are just a few ideas to get you started but a tea party birthday is so versatile, almost any dainty decoration will do.
