Planning a Princess Tea on a Pauper’s Budget, Part 2

Yesterday I talked about planning aspects of a princess tea on a budget. Today I will continue to give you tips so you can create a special memory. Decorations: Your secret weapon is tulle. Tulle can be purchased at many discount stores. If you must go to the fabric store use your monthly coupon. Tulle is easy to work with even for those who do not consider themselves crafty. A yard of tulle wrapped in a big bow around the back of the chairs will make all the girls feel like princesses. For a royal table carefully attach tulle from … Continue reading

Gloves, Hats, and Necklaces – Craft Ideas for Tea Parties

What’s a tea party without gloves? I have several ideas for decorating gloves, depending on the age group of your guests and how many adult helpers you have. If you are lucky you can sometimes find old dress gloves at thrift stores and garage sales. If you can’t find them or don’t want to glue things to almost antique clothing, gloves meant for keeping lotion on your hands, or those one size fits all stretch gloves that cost about a dollar work just fine too. Plain gloves are fine and will feel fancy to the children. But gloves with decorations … Continue reading

Tea Party Birthday Parties

Tea party themed birthday parties can be loads of fun, and aren’t hard to put together. For invitations consider a teacup-shaped card with a string and tag attached mimicking a tea bag. You can write your party details on the tag and on the cup. Dressing up is the most fun part. You can invite your guest to come dressed up, or consider it a party activity. Position a mirror in the party room so the girls can see how they look. Provide boas, tiaras, and loads and loads of beaded necklaces and bracelets. Thrift stores and garage sales are … Continue reading

Simple Summer Shindigs

Just because you don’t have a summer birthday doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate with a monster bash that people will be talking about well into winter. Summer parties typically involve barbeques, backyard bonfires and plenty of beverages. However, if you are looking to spice up your seasonal get-together why not think outside of the box with these fun themes: Go West: Ditch the beach theme and kick up your heels at a western-themed hoedown. Print up invitations on computerized wanted posters and request that guests attend the party in western duds. For those who forget their gear, hand out large, … Continue reading

Pirate Adventure

My 6-year-old daughter recently attended a birthday party with a “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” theme. The animated show on Disney Junior is based on Peter Pan, but is much cuter and tamer than the original pirate/fairy movie. My daughter happens to love the show, but is not a huge pirate fan. Rather, she adores Tick-Tock the Crocodile and Skully the bird. Given her affinity for animals instead of buccaneers, I wondered how she’d do at the pirate fest. Turns out she had a blast, thanks in large part to the birthday boy’s mother’s creativity. Here are just a … Continue reading

Buffet Parties: Who’s On First?

Similar but even more aggravating than the cocktail party, is the stand-up buffet. Since the food fare is more substantial than those cocktail party “one-biters,” finding easy and graceful ways to serve it and consume it become paramount issues. A buffet is a great way to serve many people simultaneously without the formality of a sit-down dinner. It usually complements an important occasion: a wedding, a divorce, the relocation of an unwanted friend or relative, a graduation, birthday etc. One rule of thumb about buffet food is to fit the food with the hour. Tea sandwiches, tiny canapés and pastries … Continue reading
