Cuban Hamburger-Oh MY!

I saw this recipe today and I kid you not, it nearly made me ditch my low-carbohydrate diet and run to the nearest store to buy some burger buns.

This burger is a delicious, juicy twist on a classic Cuban sandwich. If you've never had a Cuban sandwich, you're missing out-flavorful, juicy pork, Swiss cheese, pickles-it's delicious. But I have a sneaking suspicion this burger is going to be a close second.

For this recipe you'll need:

2 pounds ground chuck (20% fat for best flavor)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper 1/2 cup best-quality mayonnaise

3 cloves roasted garlic, pureed 1/4 cup Dijon mustard

4 soft, classic hamburger buns

8 slices thinly sliced Swiss cheese

4 slices thinly sliced smoked ham

2 dill pickles, sliced 1/4-inch thick

To make this recipe:

In a bowl, combine the ground chuck, salt, and pepper. Pack the burgers firmly with your hands. Set aside.

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, roasted garlic, and Dijon mustard. Set aside.

Cook the burgers over medium-high heat, 5-7 minutes for medium-well (a few minutes more for well-done).

To assemble:

Spread the top and bottom of each bun with sauce. On the bottom buns, layer the burgers as follows:

One slice of Swiss cheese, the burger, a slice of ham, the pickles, and another slice of Swiss cheese.

Wrap burgers in aluminum foil, take them back to the grill and put them on the grill topped with a brick. Cook till crusty on both sides.

Now you've got a Cuban-sandwich burger!

**You can weight the burgers with a heavy pan if you'd like. If you'd like, you can omit this last step and eat them as they are, or put them in a panini maker or George Forman Grill to press them.
