Fish Bait Kids Snack

by Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger

This is a really fun snack for a summer party, a class snack or a birthday party. Personally, I will be using this recipe for my son's upcoming birthday party in two weeks. He is having a pirate theme for his party. I'm going to triple the batch (at least) and serve it in a wooden treasure chest that I found at the craft store.

This recipe is so simple to make, and yet, I am sure that it will make a big impact with the kids. You could also try it for any outdoor gathering or picnic.

If you are having a beach theme, you could try serving the snack mix in colorful sand pails, or those small metal pails that you can find in the dollar store. Guests can even take the pails home with them as favors.

I first came across this recipe when we attended our old church. The ladies there put together a home grown cookbook, and this was one of the recipes that one of the members contributed. I was so excited to find it the other day, as I was flipping through my collection of recipes, looking for ideas for the party.

While it contains candy, so it isn't the most healthy of snacks, a little will go a long way. You can always balance it with other choices, such as fresh fruits and vegetables. The crackers in the mix also make up for some of the candy.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 12 gummy worm candies
  • 24 6-inch strips of red shoestring licorice
  • 1 cup of fish pretzel crackers
  • 12 mini swedish fish
  • 12 blue gummy sharks or dolphins
  • 1 cup of oyster crackers
  • 1 cup of fish cheese crackers

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together and serve.

This recipe makes about four cups of snack, so that is eight servings if everyone gets a half a cup. You might estimate more if you have hungry kids. And don't forget to have some for the adults, too.
