If you don't have a bread machine, you can always make this bread by hand. When you think of Italian bread, you probably picture a long white roll of white-type bread that has a nice crispy outside and a fluffy middle. While I love traditional italian bread, this recipe produces something a little different. This is a soft bread that takes its flavor from traditional Italian herbs. It is fragrant and wonderful; a very savory bread. I first made this bread to use up some fresh Italian oregano that was starting to overtake its container, and I've used that excuse to make this bread whenever I can. You can of course substitute dried herbs, but use fresh whenever possible. The general herb conversion is 1 teaspoon of dried to every tablespoon of fresh, with the exception of the oregano. In that case, you will need 1/2 teaspoon of dried oregano to 2 teaspoons of fresh. To make a one pound loaf, you will need the following ingredients:
