Just What The Doctor Ordered

Today on Rachael Ray’s show, she had Dr. Timothy Brantley on her show. He is the author of The Cure: Heal your body, save your life. He gave some helpful ways in which food helps us when we are sick or to prevent illnesses. He went over a few that I thought was interesting. Here they are: Lemons are a great food to keep on hand. Lemon improves your liver function. The liver helps to clean your blood. He suggests drinking 1/4 of a lemon in warm water to maintain the health of your liver. Potatoes are a great food … Continue reading

So You Just Found Out You’re Having Twins (or More)!

There we were, all five of us: me, my husband, and our three children. We were ready to get our first glimpse of what we thought would be the newest addition to the family. The technician turned on the screen, did a few quick scans and immediately my husband and I looked at each other. She asked me if this was my first sonogram for the pregnancy and quickly turned off the screen. I’m not a big fan of getting multiple sonograms throughout pregnancy and so at 24 weeks, it was late for a diagnosis of this nature. She quickly … Continue reading

Just How Open Should We Be with Our Special Needs Kids?

Recently I took my two stepdaughters to the doctor for a dosage check on their ADHD medication. (They each take 30 mg. of adderall daily.) Before the physician entered the room, the nurse began entering information into the computer. Height, weight, blood pressure, etc. The girls, ages twelve and nine, gleefully teased each other and fought over the cushioned examination seat. When the pediatrician finally came into the room, he had a lot of questions. What were the behaviors I saw when the girls were off their medication? What behaviors did I see while they were on it? Was it … Continue reading

That Crazy Jackson Family

If you thought Michael Jackson was the oddball of the Jackson family, you may be reconsidering that after this week’s Jackson family drama. First, it was reported that Katherine Jackson, guardian of Michael’s children, Prince, Paris, and Blanket, was missing last Saturday night by her nephew. The reason he filed the report was that the children said they had not heard from their grandmother. Jermaine said Katherine was in Arizona resting, but Paris insisted on Twitter that Katherine was missing and she hadn’t spoken to her in a week. Jermaine said his mother was resting per doctor’s orders, that she … Continue reading

What is Going on with My Breast?

I debated about writing this post, giving away too much information, but then I thought that however things unfold, the post might help another woman. I am further inspired by all of the courage and candidness of my fellow blogger, Tammy, whose own journeys through cancer have helped many, I’m sure. So here goes. Yesterday morning I had a routine mammogram. My doctor prefers screening annually after the age of 40. A couple of hours later, I received a call at home from the radiology department. “Mrs. Romans, the radiologist wants to take another look at your left breast. We … Continue reading

Pneumonia Great

Did you know that when you are in the hospital as a patient and you see your own personal physician in the halls he is not allowed to come in your room unless you request? I did not either but that is what I found out when I saw my primary care doctor in the halls on the third night post-surgery. I asked him to come in because I was not feeling all that great. They gave me a blood transfusion earlier in the day but that was not the problem. I felt like I was developing bronchitis or pneumonia. … Continue reading

Day Two Post-Surgery

Have you ever noticed how you really cannot get any rest in the hospital? I swear someone was in my room every hour poking, prodding, check my bandages it was insane. So I survived the surgery and the first day post-surgery but I had always known the second day after surgery is always the worst for pain. So my plastic surgeon wants me to get up and walk today. I am really not looking forward to this. SO I get woken up early with the shift change and then about 8 they bring in some breakfast, by this time it … Continue reading

A Real Break

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. By this time next week I will have completed the final portion of my qualifying exams (for better or for worse). While there are still many things I could be doing to study for these examinations I have made a pact with myself to not engage in study on the day of the hoilday itself. While I will be giving up twenty four hours of study time I will be gaining twenty four much needed hours of relaxation and time spent with family. While we sometimes think that giving up time to study will be harmful to … Continue reading

Something To Hold On To

I love how the gospel accounts are so different, each one inspired by God but reflecting the personality of the individual. The logical and ordered mind of Luke, the doctor, set out to write a factual ordered account to help Theophilus as well as anyone who reads this gospel, understand more of Jesus. Interestingly Luke was not a Jew, yet the starts his account with the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy of the one who would prepare people for the Savior God would send. This was John the Baptist. Luke had obviously got a lot of his information from … Continue reading
