King Arthur Flour and The Baker's Catalogueby Courtney Mroch | More from this Blogger 26 Jan 2008 04:24 PM A whole new world of amazing delights I never knew existed has just opened up to me. Some people have sweet tooths, but not me. I am a Sweet Tooth and I found perhaps what can only be deemed my Mecca: The Baker's Catalogue. Recently I wrote about how I'm definitely not opposed to having food delivered by mail. That's how I stumbled across this amazing find. Wayne and I got to talking about a favorite cookie from our youth: cherry chip. King Soopers, a grocery store back in Denver, our hometown, used to offer kids a choice and Wayne said he always picked the cherry chip same as me. (For all I know King Soopers still does this. We have Kroger's here, which is a division of King Soopers, but I haven't ever seen cherry chip cookies there.) Anyway, so I went online to look for a cherry chip cookie recipe. Found one, so the next step was finding the main ingredient, cherry chips. That's where I ran into a problem. No stores here had them. So, like when we first moved to Nashville and I couldn't find Wayne's favorite jerk seasoning, Busha Browne's, in any of the stores, I hopped online to find it. Success! I actually found two places that carried cherry chips, but I decided to order from King Arthur Flour's site. (The other site might have been less expensive, but I couldn't tell for sure because I wasn't sure from the description on their site just how many chips I was buying.) Anyway, so my order comes a few days ago and along with it come this catalog accompanied by a chorus of angels and a ray of sunlight. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh... Flour's perhaps their claim to fame, and now as I think on it I probably have seen King Arthur flour before, but I had no idea it was a whole baking enterprise! They have everything! Such as any kind of baking ingredient from extracts to sugars and syrups to fillings and toppings. And mixes? Muffin, cookie, cakes... basically a Sweet Tooth's delight. But they also have food mixes like soups and pizzas. Of course they also have a great selection of baking tools and appliances to bake up all these yummies. Holy guacamole, I am one happy woman perusing this catalog, let me tell you. But it gets even better. Come to find out they have an actual brick-and-mortar store in Vermont, some place I've always wanted to visit anyway. You can bet when I do King Arthur Flour will be a priority on my itinerary! I love cookies so much and also grew up in Denver. The cherry cookie is the one I chose everytime as well! I can still remember how they taste. They were so rich with great flavoring. I can't believe it that I found someone else who feels the same way. I live in AL now and am having a hard time finding them. Did you have much luck with the recipe that you found? Courtney Mroch (9169) 25 Apr 2008 01:44 PMIf you can believe, I still have not made the cookies!!!! And my husband is crushed. The chips have been ready in the pantry for months now. Shameful. However, now that you mention it, I guess I better hurry up and hop to it. No sense letting perfectly good cherry chips go to rot!! times3fam (14) 25 Apr 2008 03:36 PMWell, no rush but I would really love to know how it all turns out! I will check this blog every now and then to see. I am so curious because I'm thinking of making them too but don't want to go to the trouble of getting the chips if the recipe is not good. I have also seen a few recipes online that use cherry chip cake mix that I would try if yours doesn't work out. Courtney Mroch (9169) 26 Apr 2008 07:52 PMI saw some with the cherry chip cake mix too, but where the heck to find the mix? I guess that's just another excuse for me to shop the Baker's Catalog... ;) When I do finally make these cookies I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks again for your comments!
