Make Crunchy Chocolate Turkeys with Your Kids this Thanksgivingby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 24 Nov 2008 12:11 PM If you are going to take the time to make one edible craft this Thanksgiving, this should be it. My daughter made these adorable Chocolate Turkeys in cooking class last week and gobbled it up before I could go parental paparazzi on her and snap a few keepers. That's just one of the reasons we are headed back into the kitchen this week to whip up a few more. The body of these cute little turkeys is made from Chocolate Rice Krispies cereal and the rest of the ingredients can be found in your pantry. This is one of the most affordable edible creation you'll ever make. What's more, your kids will love decorating them. (Tip: If you have leftover Halloween candy, this is a great way to use it up.) When your chocolate gobblers are done, place them around your dessert table as fun decorations. Oh, and take a snapshot right away because once your guests see them, these turkeys won't be around for long. CRUNCHY CHOCOLATE TURKEYS Ingredients: 3 tablespoons of butter or margarine 1 package (10 oz.) marshmallows 6 cups Cocoa Rice Krispies Assorted Candy (mini M&Ms, candy corn, Mike & Ikes, gum drops, etc.) Directions: In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Add cereal. Stir until well coated. Cool slightly. Coat hands with cooking spray or butter and shape cereal mixture into balls. Roll balls into more Cocoa Krispies to make turkeys really brown. Use a utensil or toothpick to poke holes for the candy. Use gumdrop or candy corn for turkey's beak and a broken Mike & Ike for his snood. Thread marshmallows on toothpicks to make feathers, then insert them into turkey's body. If you really want to get fancy you could use icing or gel to write the name of each guest on individual turkeys and hand them out as parting gifts once your Thanksgiving get together is over.
