Have you ever had one of these delicious sandwiches? I can't decide whether they are a meal or a dessert. So I'll say...they're both! Making these delightfully scrumptious sandwiches is a piece of cake. Once you learn how, you'll be hooked. And so will your friends and family!
Essentially, the Monte Cristo is a ham and turkey sandwich that is dredged in a French-toast type batter and fried. Then it's topped with powdered sugar and served with a side of jam. If you haven't tried it, you've been missing something special.
For this recipe you'll need: (For two sandwiches)
4 thick pieces of white bread
Approximately 6 slices of ham
Approximately 6 slices of turkey
Approximately 4 slices of Swiss Cheese
1 Tablespoon strawberry jam (optional)
3 eggs, beaten
1/3 cup whole milk
1 ½ Tablespoons butter
2 Tablespoons Powdered Sugar
½ cup strawberry jam for dipping
To Make This Sandwich:
For each sandwich: Top one slice of bread with desired amounts of ham, turkey, and cheese. Spread strawberry jam on the other piece of bread if desired.
Preheat a skillet with melted butter.
Mix together the milk and eggs and dredge the sandwich for just a second to coat the entire thing.
Cook on Medium to Medium high Heat until golden brown on all sides.
Cut the sandwich in half and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with jam for dipping.
Devour!!
