Did your grandmother used to make this old fashioned summer treat? I must confess, I had never heard of it before until I stumbled upon a recipe in my Amish cookbook. I tried it and failed miserably. However, this version is a little more fool proof. The cake requires a few less ingredients and if you’re careful to follow the directions–it will come out beautifully. I confess that I am known as the dessert lady. Whenever our church has a potluck–I am asked to bring dessert. That’s fine by me too–there are lots of advantages to bringing dessert. First of all, you can lick the bowl. You can’t really lick a bowl of marinade that had raw chicken in it–right? Frozen Desserts Galore: Pumpkin Baked Alaska

It’s too bad that I didn’t find this recipe while I was doing my “Abandon the Pumpkin Pie” series. Thankfully, you don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving to try this out. The cool richness of pumpkin flavored frozen ice cream will satiate any post Turkey day (or is it pre-Turkey day now?) cravings you might have. Baked Alaska is actually kind of fun to make.
