Happy National Pie Day

I just got back from the supermarket where the cashier wished me a “Happy Pie Day!” At first I thought she was being sarcastic because I didn’t have a single item in my cart that was pie-worthy. Then, she flashed a smile, pointed to her cherry pie-shaped lapel pin, and explained that January 23rd was National Pie Day. Thanks American Pie Council. A day to celebrate pie? Yum! Then again, who needs an excuse to eat pie? If you are looking for a way to honor the great American sweet and flaky dessert today, then consider making my daughter’s favorite … Continue reading

Fiber helps you feel full, fiber helps keep the digestive system working and happy. Pumpkin is an amazing source of vitamin … Continue reading

If you have (or have had) a picky little eater in your family then you know the sheer delight that overcomes you when he or she finds a new favorite food. Two bites later and my toddler was pumping her fists proclaiming her love for the spicy dessert. It was a Hallelujah moment and I immediately went online to hunt down every pumpkin pie recipe known to man. I spent months experimenting with pumpkin pie recipes, … Continue reading

Limited Mess Pumpkin Decorating Ideas for Kids

Whereas I was tempted to title this blog “No Mess Pumpkin Decorating Ideas,” I know better than to do so given that glitter is involved in some of the following projects. Trust me; as a mom of a craft-loving preschooler I know what happens when a few containers of glitter are placed on an art table. Still, I’ll take a beach full of sandy glitter over a sink full of slimy pumpkin guts any day. With that said, here are a few more ways you can make your pumpkin stand out from the other gourds this Halloween: Glitter Pumpkins While … Continue reading

Most young children have extra energy to burn, so keep them busy by having … Continue reading

Thanksgiving Dishes That Please Preschoolers

The holiday meal. In our extended family, food items like brussel sprouts are a standby for the holidays, as is turnip and apple. We also serve salad, carrots with lots and lots of onions, wine…you get the picture. It’s not all that kid-friendly, except perhaps for the pumpkin pie. Especially not the sprouts – in fact, I find them somewhat unfriendly as well and tend to steer clear of the tiny cabbages. Shhh, don’t tell! While your preschooler may adore a dish of sprouts and vegetable dishes amply strewn with onions, mine does not. Extended families that have children present … Continue reading
