Quick Breads in the Bread Machine

Did you know that many bread machines will allow you to make quick breads in addition to regular yeast breads? You can use many bread machine to make corn bread, cranberry bread, and more.

I love making quick breads in the bread machine because believe it or not, I find that in some recipes, the texture is improved over my hand mixing the ingredients. I can also just add the ingredients to the machine in the morning and go take a shower, allowing the machine mix and bake, knowing that I don't have to watch the clock.

I've tried traditional muffin and quick bread recipes in my bread machine without too much trouble.

To make quick breads in a bread machine, select the quick bread feature on your machine. Some machines will label this feature as "batter bread." You can use the batter bread feature to make cakes, as well.

There are some things that I would like to mention about making quick breads in a bread machine.

The first is that sometimes the bread machine may need a little help in mixing. The manufacturer of my machine says to check it when the machine beeps, in between mixing. I find that if I just mix it slightly before starting the machine (two or three turns with a spoon), I don't have to stop and check it.

Another thing I would mention concerns the paddle of the machine. If you want a true unblemished loaf of quick bread, you'll need to pull the paddle out of the machine before the bread bakes. In all honesty, I leave it in. It doesn't bother me in the least. I tend to cut down quick breads into snack-size pieces anyway. This makes it easy for us to grab the quick bread as we need it. And the snack-size pieces are great to add into a school lunch bag.
