Scary Movie Nightby Libby Pelham | More from this Blogger 29 Oct 2006 07:11 PM Are you thinking about entertaining on Halloween instead of going trick-or-treating? Why don't you consider hosting a scary movie night? You can invite all your friends over for good food and a good time. What do you need to put together a scary movie night? First (and perhaps most importantly), you will need a scary movie. There are all different types of "scary" movies from the old Boris Karloff flicks to today's gorefests like Hostel. You will need to pick your movie based on who is attending. If you are inviting people with children, take that into consideration when choosing the film. You can go with classic horror movies such as Rosemary's Baby, sci-fi horror such as Aliens, contemporary horror such as Saw, or even comedy horror movies such as Ghostbusters. Next, you need to plan what food you want to serve. If you are having a small crowd, you may even want to offer a complete dinner. You can go all out with a Halloween feast or choose something simple like pizza. If you do not want to serve a full dinner, you may want to serve appetizers. Three or four tasty appetizers can really make a party! You will most definitely want to serve popcorn. Some stores, like World Market, even sell the cute little paper popcorn bags like they have in the movie theaters. Make sure you have plenty of drinks and ice on hand for your guests. You will need to make sure that you have your DVD player connected to your television. Also, have enough comfortable seating for your guests. The chairs should be arranged so everyone has a good view of the television. One last thing you will need to think about is whether this is a serious movie night or just a fun night. Some people take movies very seriously and like it to be very quiet so they can watch the entire movie uninterrupted. And some people look at movie viewing as a social occasion, talking and making comments during scenes. If your friends are a mixture of the two, you may want to rent the same movie twice and show it in two different rooms, so you can separate the serious people from the talkers. I don't like horror movies for myself but do understand that many people do. Aussies don't seem to go in for much grandure around halloween, the people I know don't anyway. Maybe I'm now in the too old category!! When travelling through UK and Europe on several occasions at that time of year I have noticed how people and communities in general really celebrated halloween, big time. I do remember so many things to be thankful for on the 1st November and the many loved ones who have passed on and celebrate their memory on 2nd of November but my grandchildren, from the big ones to the littlies seem to have lots of fun for halloween though. I remember in Central America at that time of year there was lots of halloween programs on the cable TV but the people there seemed to be full on for both All Saints and All Souls days rather than halloween.
