Ask a Food Blogger: How Do You Create a Menu Plan?

I’m excited to answer my first food blogger question: I know I would eat healthier and we’d eat more meals at home if I had a weekly menu plan. But how do you go about creating one? You are correct on both counts: menu plans will help you eat healthier, stick to certain goals, and it will decrease the likelihood that you have to get take out for lack of preparation. One thing that can help with menu preparation is recipe software. Most recipe software has grocery list features as well as menu planning features. I have written before about … Continue reading

Autumn Recipes: S is for Stew

Stew screams fall to me. While some home cooks shy away from the labor-intensive dish I happen to love the way a piping-hot pot of stew fills the house with incredible aromas on a chilly fall evening. If you are one of those people who love the taste of a hearty helping of stew, but can’t stand the prep work that goes into making it, might I suggest setting aside a single Sunday afternoon to make this incredible recipe. It was created by the folks at Martha Stewart Living, though I tweaked it a bit to conform to the tastes … Continue reading

Moose Gives Me Another Heart Attack

My dog Moose is what you might call “accident prone”. When we first moved to Oregon, he got attacked at the dog park and ended up needing stitches inside his ear. About a week after he got his stitches out, he slipped his collar and chased a cat into the street and got hit by a car. It’s been a while since we had an adventure — but he saved up a good one. On Sunday afternoon, I came home from work to find that one of the dogs had thrown up bile and blood clots in the living room. … Continue reading
