The Best Pear Crisp in the World

I’m not generally one to cook with pears. They never last long enough in our fridge to accumulate enough to make a really great pie or cobbler or crisp. But we had such luck last night and so a-baking I went. This filling is really inspired by a recipe I found in Family Fun Magazine. (Yes, you’ll notice I get quite a few recipes from there.) I like it because the ground ginger gives the dish a little kick. This is definitely a case where less is more, and when I experimented with adding other spices, I have to admit … Continue reading

Changing Focus

When you are first starting out in photography, it’s best to concentrate on the basics. After all, there’s no sense in trying to memorize all the nuances of advanced picture-taking if you can’t remember how to work something as simple as your camera’s zoom feature. Nothing sings the praises of summer like blueberry cobbler. Cooks love summer for its fresh bounty and yes, if you make it right–blueberry cobbler sings! Personally, I love a dallop of crème friache, but it’s not necessary to make this tasty treat really stand out. This blueberry cobbler is unique with a cornbread cinnamon top but I almost guarantee that once you try it this way–you may just ditch your old blueberry cobbler recipe! Caring For Your Stoneware Bakeware

The idea for using fired clay for baking and cooking is ancient. The Chinese used to take slabs of clay and heat them in a kiln of around 2000 degrees. The result is what we now call stoneware.
