Three Bean Casserole

by Jennifer Frye | More from this Blogger

Here is a recipe that you can use when you need to bring a dish to a party, a cookout or for a dinner after a funeral. Someone in our family always makes this dish with a side of rolls for all funerals. We always find it to be a comfort food. Any celebration would be a great time to serve this familiar main course. There are many ways that you can personalie this dish to make it your own and suit your tastes. It is plain and simple, but it fills the belly up. Most of the time, it will be the first thing eaten. The next time you are invited to a cookout, try this.

You will need:

1 Can Kidney beans

1 Can pinto beans

1 can Northern beans

1 medium onion, chopped

1 Cup brown sugar

1/4 Cup ketchup

1 teaspoon of prepared mustard

11/2 pounds of ground beef

Brown hamburger and onion; drain fat. Drain beans and add to hamburger and onions. Add brown sugar, ketchup and mustard. Stir until completely mixed together. Heat thoroughly.

Suggestions: Add cheese: cheddar or American Instead of Kidney, Pinto, and Northern beans, you can add Lima, Butter, or pork and beans Add bacon Add green peppers, red sweet peppers, corn, a can of diced tomatoes. Put a can of biscuits on top and bake until the biscuits are done Boil potatoes, add to meat mixture Instead of a three bean casserole, make it a four bean casserole Add corkscrew macaroni When I fix cornbread to go with it, we also add mild salsa to top it, just for that extra kick. Add a cup of rice to the mixture Serve with garlic bread

Meal suggestions: Three bean casserole, baked potato, rolls Three bean casserole, corn on the cob, and a toss salad
