Christmas Cookie Scrapbook

Now I’ve seen everything. Yesterday I popped into my local scrapbook supply store to pick up an extra pack of holiday-themed stickers for a layout I am creating to display my daughter’s school Christmas concert photos, but what to my wondering eyes should appear: a Christmas cookie scrapbook. I’m not sure I would have believed it unless I saw it with my own two eyes. Sitting in the middle of the display table was a pimped out Christmas recipe scrapbook filled exclusively with amazing photos of the most divine cookies known to man and directions on how to make them … Continue reading

Rocky Road Mud Cookies

Consider me a fan of anything that includes both milk chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Putting both into any type of dessert always yields a more richer and more complex flavor. In fact, here’s a little tip: if you add both semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips to your chocolate chip cookies. . .they’ll be doubly delicious. Just add half of each (as opposed to double the amount of chocolate called for.) In any case, these are a great snack to warm up your home on a cold winter’s day. I’m fairly sure I heard them calling for hot chocolate when … Continue reading

Strawberry Shortcake – Heirloom Recipes

One of our favorite family desserts is Strawberry Shortcake. We make it the old-fashioned way. The cakes actually look more like biscuits, and are truly just sweetened biscuit dough. I love knowing that my great grandmother made this same dessert for her family, and maybe she even had it as a child. I love that by eating this yummy dessert, we are passing on family heritage. And I love teaching my children to make a family recipe. Someday, maybe, they will tell their children that their great-great grandmother made this for her family. Here are some interesting facts about strawberries … Continue reading

Yummy Butterscotch Chip Cookies

My husband baked us some cookies last night. The fact that he wanted to make home-made cookies was a shock to me, but he wanted those cookies so badly that we made an impromptu shop at the grocery store just to get butterscotch chips. He used a good Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe, but instead of using the chocolate chips, he used butterscotch chips. And boy are those cookies good! The Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe in itself is a winner. Now with the butterscotch chips it’s a whole other cookie recipe that’s equally as good. I know you will love it … Continue reading

Today I’m Cheating

Today I am cheating. I am taking a little more wiggle room than Jell-O would allow yet I am cheating the system more so than on my diet. Today, I am going to have my cake and eat it too. Sometimes you just have to do that. Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the changing leaves changing colors. I love the mild chill in the air. I long to sit on my porch and drink pumpkin spiced coffee and eat a pumpkin muffin. All October I am all about pumpkin spice. So far this year the only … Continue reading

Spicy Orange Sole

I admit that we don’t eat a lot of fish. I had horrible childhood experiences with trying to de-bone endless amounts of trout (because if you live near the Rocky Mountains–that’s what you get is trout) and frankly, I think it spoiled me on the whole eating fish thing. Every time I look at fish in the grocery store, I think of hours of de-boning, gutting and dumping pails of fish heads. However, as I get older and begin to seek healthier ways to cook for my family, I am more and more interested in eating fish. The problem is … Continue reading
