Your Winnie the Pooh Birthday Cake

A few days ago, Lauri over in Fun posted some games and fun things to do at a Winnie the Pooh Birthday Party. I'm a little late but here to follow up on some great ideas for your Winnie the Pooh birthday party cake!

One of the great things about the Winnie the Pooh theme is that supplies run in abundance at most party stores. (This is really true for most popular children's characters.) This makes decorating a cinch.

Easy Pooh Cake

The easiest way to get a Pooh cake is to make and frost a regular 9 x 13 inch cake and top with a cake topper. My favorite Pooh cake topper is the one pictured above known as "The Watering Hole." (I should note that that cake requires a little more than just a plane 9 x 13 cake for the back end.) But they also sell pictures to stick in the middle of a plain cake which makes getting a "real Pooh cake" a cinch.

The Cupcake Option

Likewise, thanks to the Disney marketing machine, there are also a lot of options for cupcakes if you prefer to do that instead. Everything from little sugared butterflies to actual Pooh character faces that you can stick on top. Again, a super easy and time saving option.

Professional Looking Shaped Pooh Cake--It's Easier Than You Think

However, you might be surprised at how easy it is to make a real shaped cake. You'll have to buy a special Pooh shaped pan. (Or perhaps you'll go for Eeyore or Tigger?). You'll also need cake decorating supplies:

* pastry bags

* star decorating tip, and usually a fine line tip

*cake decorating coloring Note: No, you can't use plain old food coloring generally speaking. Plain food coloring will yield less brilliant colors than will cake coloring. Red food coloring will yield pink frosting, no matter how much you add to the frosting. . .ask my spouse who diligently decorated a "pink" Transformer for my son's birthday. Er. . .um. . .I mean it was "light red". They sell cake frosting coloring in packs at the party supply store. So usually, you can just pick up a pack for "The Winnie the Pooh" cake or for the "Tigger Cake."
